News of late

I haven’t written anything here in ages. Some update is overdue, if not completely falling in an empty forest.

  • My second oldest sibling just turned 40. Only three of us to go…but happy birthday, big brother!
  • In January I went to Iquitos, Peru, the Amazon rainforest, and to Blue Morpho. That was the weirdest thing I have ever experienced. The probable irony was not lost on me.
  • I sold my house in January. Yay! Met the new owners this weekend and went through the drip irrigation system, plants, etc. with them. They seem super nice.
  • I also signed up for an ultra which will be 4 weeks after the Eugene marathon.
  • This Friday they’re announcing the course for the Rock n Roll Seattle marathon in June. I hope to 1) not run this as a race but 2) still be out as a pacer. ChuckIt will be providing the pacers.
  • And speaking of ChuckIt, I made a small modification to the marathon training ladders so that if you’re looking, for instance, at an advanced schedule, you can ask for the “aplus” level program and get the no-holds-barred exxxtreme advanced schedule, like I’ll be following for Eugene.
  • Io turned 3 this weekend - he had a nice party with licks from Jupiter, unwrapping a fresh bully stick, a new toy in the backyard, a trip to Mud Bay Granary out in the sunshing, and some time just lounging around.

OK - that’s about enough for now…bye!

Super America

I’m a little behind on my feeds and missed this post from Nick promoting (?) this video for our shared home town, West St. Paul. It’s kind of charming, but still weirds me out.

Recap precap

I have a bunch of recaps I need to get to work on…

  • My trip to Salt Lake City with Scott from a week and a half ago, wherein the slopes were rocked.
  • The weekend of races, wherein my track race was so-so but the Hart Foundation reunification saw me and the Anvil both setting new personal bests.
  • The transformation of flexcar into zipcar, wherein my rates go up.

Monday I start real work again, so I guess I’m glad I’m keeping busy enough that I’m not finding time to blog, but as usual I’m not totally sure where all my time’s going. But I know in about an hour it’s going to be sucked up by 6×800’s with 1 minute recovery. But it’s on the grass! Just like old times!

Not getting things done

I know of two incredibly effective ways to kill productivity:

  • Keep a computer on and conspicuously located - computers are great for getting *some* things done but when your to-do list doesn’t involve email, peeking at facebook, or organizing episodes of Northern Exposure, they’re the worst.
  • Have an adorable dog nearby - he’s just so cuddly and only wants to play, what kind of person are you if you can say no?

Uh oh…

I don’t like where this is headed!

It’s just past midnight on the morning of October 10 in the United States which means that somewhere in East Timor provided he doesn’t run into any situations like he woke me up with last night at 1:30:

I think i just did something very stupid and am in a bad spot. They say to never get in a car with strangers and i should’ve listened to that

Howard is celebrating his (official) birthday. I wish we could all be celebrating together, H Lo!

Saturday

A couple recent developments of no particular importance

  • Herkimer Coffee is now open around the corner from my house. I was totally excited by this because one of my updated running routes takes me past their Phinney location and I’ve wanted to go there but it’s always been closed. But it turns out this branch is only open till 6 every day, too. Drat. And they have one power outlet. I’d love for some coffee shop in the neighborhood to stay open till midnight or 1. Ideally one without lousy service and a terrible ambiance. But until that happens I can keep cruising to Bauhaus which is and will probably continue to be my favorite coffee shop ever.
  • I Sennheiser HD202’s in the mail today. I don’t know much about really good headphones which is why I didn’t want to spend more than about $20 on a pair and just trusted the user ratings. These are massively sweet. I must always ensure that I have a decent pair of headphones in my list of tangible possessions throughout the rest of my life. Few things could be more satisfying than listening to Thunder Road on a sweet pair of cans.
  • Today was a relatively easy 12 miler. I did most of the run with Jay-a-resa and felt good throughout. I’m already feeling a little antsy about the taper, though, so I’m going to run the Fremont Oktoberfest 5k tomorrow. I’ll aim to finish in under 20, which should do all of: be a personal best, be pretty easy (give me room to set future personal bests), take the edge off, and give me a hankering for the festival that afternoon!
  • I’ve been doing some web work for the coach that I think will totally help out the website and he seems pretty happy with it. It’s way easier for him to enter new training schedules for upcoming marathons and I’m working on some more google maps integration for our run routes and my pioneering work in Seattle runners’ lavatory and drinking fountain cartography. It’s still got a little ways to go, but it’s already pretty sweet.
