Jacuzzi vs. Hot Tub

I talked with my homeowners insurance agent and during the interview he asked a question which wound up leading my to understand the answer to one of life’s persistent questions: what is the difference between a jacuzzi and a hot tub?

  • Jacuzzi a bathtub with jets
  • Hot tub a large multi-person pool with jets, frequently found outdoors

Thank you.

Perhaps… but (if you bear with my SAT/GRE word association foray) I thought Jacuzzi to hot tub was like Kleenex to tissue.

Huh! It’s strange that my insurer definitely seems to take a different interpretation but you appear to be right. Jacuzzi (from Whirlpool) seems to make both what I described as a jacuzzi [sic] and a hot tub, and I bet there are hot tub manufacturers that make what I described as a jacuzzi.

That’s not the distinction I heard.
