It would be more awesome if they added some terms of use that does
something for the user other than covering their asses, like forcing
you to agree to terms of use saying you assume some liability for
obvious misuse of the network. I’ll stick to my GPRS connection,
thanks!

Here’s a handy tip I wish I’d tried a while ago. Say you have a flash cardreader or just a bunch of other USB devices that you connect to your computer all the time but it’s hard to tell which is which. For instance, my flash reader has four connectors - CF, SD/MMC, SomethingINeverUse, and SomethingElseINeverUse. Just drop two files on the USB device - autorun.inf some icon file (say, autorun.ico) and have the autorun.inf contents indicate:
[autorun]
icon=autorun.ico
Now when you plug in your device, you’ll see the .ico icon instead of the default device icon. In the screenshot you can see a tea-pot I use for a Samsung mp3 player (which also has a volume label “tTunes”) and an icon for a 512mb Flash card that I use in a digital camera. There are more settings you can put in the autorun.inf - I may write more later about how I use this for my podcast syncing setup. The icons are really handy, though. It’s a shame that this isn’t available in an unformattable space of the USB device.
You can get a few handy icons (pictured at right) for cf, minisd, sd, and the teapot here (at least you will be able to soon…).

Though I may not be the first to congratulate Nick and Amy on their wedding day, I would like to be the first to blog about it and send my most sincere congratulations!

Here’s a fun science experiment you can conduct at work. Have your
company install
href="http://www.starbucks.com/business/icup.html">iCup’s all over
the place. Next, pour yourself a 12oz cup of hot chocolate. Resist
temptation to drink any more than a few sips and discretely
place that cup of hot chocolate on a shelf somewhere in your office.
Now comes the easy part — wait.
It probably won’t take long for the film of mold to cover the top of
the drink (at least this is my guess - I missed this part). Don’t get
discouraged! Biology is hard at work underneath and in just a couple
more days after especially slow evaporation through the mold and
polystyrene, the mold will be stretched thin enough to rupture.
A nauseous reward awaits you and your closest (in terms of proximity)
co-workers. For maximum effect, you should try not to remember where
you put the cup.

served with my coffee today:
you have inexhaustible wisdom and power
so maybe there should be a new game where you follow your fortune with the phrase “…unlike the republicans”?

so i’m on the bus with ‘i wanna know girls’ playing fr the 5th or so time on loop. Mac is a genius and for any doubters I offer the line: “my love is like an uzi, oh yeah my love weighs a ton.” if you don’t get it then you wouldn’t know genius if a nation of millions of geniuses bum rushed your poor ignorant ass.
but today is a special day because it’s the RTM party for Office 12. A couple years in the making and my 4th ship party (all for office) in eight years. The sad thing is that they’re draining the fountains. it’s a tradition that everyone gets thrown in the fountain at the ship party. Well, almost everyone - last release coworkerX and I were going to try to pick up and toss in coworkedY when coworkerY busted out a pugilist stance straight out of “oh, brother, where art thou?” and told us he would throw down if we tried to dunk him (which turned out to be more fun than actually tossing him in). but anyway, the fountains are drained. what’s up with that, Steve? Bill? And we just got the towels back! regardless - it’ll be bittersweet since a lot of the old crew (Howard, Moshe, Chris) have moved on, but it will certainly still nice to celebrate many years of work one more time.
