i missed the bus

sometimes the buses and predictive departure data works for you and sometimes it works against you. today mybus.org told me my regular bus home happened to leave my stop a couple minutes before it was supposed to even start its route. argh! but a quick eta check and I see that my alternate bus is due to leave in plenty of time for me to make it. great! but by the time I got to a point where that stop was in sight, I saw my alternate bus pulling away. argh! luckily (or something) I know that traffic between that stop and its next stop is always awful enough that if I run and get all sweaty I can make it to the next stop in time to still get on. great! so I did and the bus was full so I had to stand and be all gross and stew. ugh. my alternate bus involves a transfer, though, so of course rather than do something productive with my time I looked up the time for my connection and found two of my connecting bus should be getting to the transfer point right as I’m due to get there. great! but the transfers aren’t quite adjacent and as we’re pulling up I saw transfer bus 1 pull away, decided to kick it into high gear to make the second bus, and then watched it leave, too.

so the verdict is in and technology neither makes my life easier nor better - the question is: why am I so stupid that I keep relying on it?
