God bless the 70’s
I wasn’t initially all that excited about this year’s
href="http://www.bumbershoot.com/">Bumbershoot lineup. The
original headliners were: the New York Dolls on Friday (without Johnny
this seems almost like when the “Dead Kennedys” toured without Jello
recently), jam rock hippies on Saturday (no thanks), Ani DiFranco on
Sunday (ugh), and not men, but Devo on Monday (who would have probably
been really cool to see). But then Ani and Devo canceled and NOW the
lineup is: NY Dolls, hippies, Elvis Costello, and Iggy & the
Stooges. I’m so into that mainstage lineup! I think Elvis
Costello is playing solo, which will be weird for the mainstage
headliner, and watching Iggy and the Stooges play in a huge arena will
definitely feel a little wrong but that’s still a great collection of
some of the 70’s finest!

Bring back “BJ and The Bear”
This is getting ridiculous. Remember the days of festivals when NEW bands actually headlined? And by new i mean a band that’s been around for less than ten years. Man, can’t see new bands on big stages anymore, just reunion shows and geezers. Next thing you know Hollywood is only gonna remake old TV shows like Bewitched and Dukes of Hazzard instead of coming up with new films. Err, wait a second.

No doubt…
And I don’t mean the band! Yeah, it’s kind of sad. A couple years ago Toots and the Maytals played the mainstage. But on the other hand, Toots and the Maytals played the mainstage! I’m sort of torn on this one - The other headliner I didn’t mention is that guy from Phish who’s no spring chicken either. The smaller stages are featuring a ton of cool smaller and local acts. Some of the coolest acts I’ve seen at Bumbershoot include kids who brought their own sheet of linoleum down to do breakdance on and a gospel choir who assembled outside one of the theaters and just started signing.
