Where’s maximize on the Mac?

Nick pointed out this absurdity I
hadn’t noticed: there is no way to maximize a window on a mac (and href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459">certainly
no keyboard shortcut for it). shift+command+delete appears to map
to “hose a bunch of files you aren’t currently looking at” but you
can’t maximize a window. Mac OS offers a lot of cool stuff, but this
one makes me think “stupid.”
